The expression of artistic vision provides us with an incredible view into the mind of the artist, and when that artist lives day to day with a major mental illness, it gives us a unique view into an altered perspective.

People living with mental illness are first and foremost people. We have dreams and goals like everyone else in the world. Sometimes those goals are delayed as we deal with the symptoms of our illnesses and sometimes we seek alternative ways to express the feelings we experience. Art is a powerful tool of recovery and an excellent way calm a troubled spirit.

The art shown in this exhibit comes from a wide range of people with mental illness. Some are formally trained artists whose works have been shown in galleries and exhibits across the country. Some are self taught or new to artistic expression who have come to their art as a means of working towards recovery. All are creative, productive people who have learned to communicate with the world through their work and to provide their vision to us all. Please join us in celebrating the creativity of these special people.
